While on a forgettable first date together in Ohio, a black man and a black woman, are pulled over for a minor traffic infraction. The situation escalates, with sudden and tragic results, when the man kills the police officer in self-defense. Terrified and in fear for their lives, the man, a retail employee, and the woman, a criminal defense lawyer, are forced to go on the run. But the incident is captured on video and goes viral, and the couple unwittingly becomes a symbol of trauma, terror, grief, and pain for people across the country.

As they drive, these two unlikely fugitives will discover themselves and each other in the direst and desperate of circumstances and will forge a deep and powerful love that will reveal their shared humanity and shape the rest of their lives. Joining a legacy of films such as Bonnie and Clyde and Thelma & Louise, Queen & Slim is a powerful, consciousness-raising love story that confronts the staggering human toll of racism and the life-shattering price of violence.

James Wan Returning To Horror Roots Prior To Aquaman 2

James Wan returning to horror roots with original film

Variety has brought word that modern horror master James Wan is returning to his genre roots for his next project before returning to the underwater world of Aquaman 2 with a secret film set up at New Line Cinema.

RELATED: James Wan’s Next Project Is Not Aquaman 2

The film, whose plot is being kept under wraps, is being co-written by Wan and Ingrid Bisu, who starred in The Nun and who recently got engaged to the 42-year-old Australian director. Wan will also produce the film through his Atomic Monster banner alongside Michael Clear.

DC Comics fan don’t have to fret, however, as Wan’s current plan is to direct the project this fall in Los Angeles and then move into pre-production on the sequel to last year’s critical and commercial smash Aquaman.

Long before he found a name for himself in the blockbuster action industry with his work on Furious 7 and Aquaman, Wan was shaping the horror genre for modern audiences, having co-created the Saw and Insidious franchises and New Line Cinema’s The Conjuring Universe, which has grossed over $1.8 billion on a combined $139.5 million budget, becoming the second highest-grossing horror franchise ever behind Godzilla.

Aquaman became the biggest success for DC films, which have a history of faltering at the box office, with the exception of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. It grossed over $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office, earning its spot as the highest grossing DC film of all-time for Warner Bros, and revealed the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry (Momoa) and took him on the journey of his lifetime — one that forced him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Great day! We got our HARD R Rating today! What’s coming is going to be unlike anything you’ve ever seen…” …Death is coming” John said

A post shared by Sly Stallone (@officialslystallone) on

The latest chapter in the sprawling Rambo saga finds the eponymous war veteran, played again by Sylvester Stallone, coping with intense PTSD while living on a ranch in Arizona, trying to pick up casual work wherever he can. Soon his friend and estate manager Maria informs him that her granddaughter went missing after crossing into Mexico for a party, so John travels south of the border to find the youngster. The quest quickly turns into a violent descent into hell as Rambo uncovers a sex-trafficking ring, teaming up with a journalist whose half-sister has also been kidnapped. Rambo has to deploy all his skills to save the girls and bring down a vicious crime lord.

The film is directed by Adrian Grunberg with Matt Cirulnick (Absentia) writing the screenplay for Rambo: Last Blood, which Avi Lerner and Kevin King will produce.

Millennium was previously planning a reboot movie with Israeli helmer Ariel Vroman (The Iceman, Criminal) behind the camera and Brooks McLaren penning the script with the aim of recasting the role created in David Morrell’s 1972 novel “First Blood” and popularized in the four films starring Sylvester Stallone. There were also plans for a proposed New Blood TV series at FOX that were also abandoned. Despite Stallone stating in 2016 that he was too old to take on the part again, the plan is for the 71-year-old actor to reprise the role one more time.

Stallone last played the role in 2008’s Rambo, which earned $113.2 million worldwide on a $50 million budget. He also wrote and directed that film.

Rambo: Last Blood begins its final vendetta in theaters September 20.

Studios Get Into Bidding War Over Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry Darling

Studios get into bidding war over Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling

Following her breakout hit directorial debut in this year’s Booksmart, Olivia Wilde has already set her next project with the psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling, for which she will both direct and star. According to Deadline, the project has sparked a bidding war amongst studios in Hollywood.

RELATED: Olivia Wilde & Jon Hamm Board Clint Eastwood’s Richard Jewell

The film, originally written Carey and Shane Van Dyke is described as “A psychological thriller about a 1950s housewife whose reality begins to crack, revealing a disturbing truth underneath.” It’s also described as a pertinent story for the Time’s Up era and Wilde’s producing and writing collaborator Katie Silberman will rewrite the script and produce the film alongside Wilde and Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee.

Wilde made her directorial debut on the coming-of-age high school comedy Booksmart, which hit theaters earlier this year and was a major critical success, earning rave reviews for its fresh comedy, chemistry between leads Kaitlyn Dever (Last Man Standing) and Beanie Feldstein (Neighbors 2) and for Wilde’s direction, currently maintaining a 97% “Certified Fresh” approval rating from critics on review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes and was a modest box office success, grossing $23 million on a $6 million budget.

Written by Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins with current revisions by Katie Silberman, the film was an unfiltered comedy, told from a wildly original, fresh modern perspective, about high school best friends and the bonds we create that last a lifetime. Capturing the spirit of our times, the film is a coming of age story for a new generation.

The story follows two academic superstars and best friends (Feldstein and Dever) who, on the eve of their high school graduation, suddenly realize that they should have worked less and played more. Determined never to fall short of their peers, the girls set out on a mission to cram four years of fun into one night.

Booksmart stars Feldstein and Dever, with Jessica Williams, Jason Sudeikis, Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte and Mike O’Brien also joining the ensemble cast comprised of rising new talent, including Molly Gordon, Billie Lourd, Skyler Gisondo, Noah Galvin, Diana Silvers, Mason Gooding, Victoria Ruesga, Austin Crute, Eduardo Franco, and Nico Hiraga.

Rust: Jeff Daniels to star in Showtime drama series adaptation

Golden Globe nominee and Emmy winner Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom, The Squid and the Whale, Godless) will be starring in and executive producing Rust, the straight-to-series adaptation for Showtime. The series is based on the novel American Rust by Philipp Meyer.

RELATED: Showtime Orders Untitled Musical Drama from Alicia Keys, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul

Rust is a compelling family drama that will explore the tattered American dream through the eyes of the complicated and compromised chief of police Del Harris (Daniels) in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania. When the woman he truly loves sees her son accused of murder, Harris is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him.

“Jeff Daniels is a bona fide giant on stage and screen, and Dan Futterman is a special writer and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have them together at Showtime,” said Gary Levine, co-president of entertainment at Showtime. “With vibrant characters caught in an unpredictable murder mystery, Rust will tell the relevant and touching human story of the corrosion of the American dream.”

A series adaptation of the book was scrapped by USA Network after the channel had picked it up for a straight-to-series order in 2017. The new iteration for Showtime will have multiple episodes written by Oscar nominee Dan Futterman (The Looming Tower, Capote) who is also serving as executive producer alongside Michael De Luca and Elisa Ellis of Platform One.

Daniels is arguably best known for his roles in the TV series The Newsroom, Godless, and The Looming Tower, and for his role as Harry in the Dumb and Dumber movies. His other recent projects include Guest Artist, The Catcher Was a Spy, Allegiant, The Martian, and Steve Jobs.

Fantasia 2019: Director Bobby Miller Talks Critters Attack!

Fantasia 2019: Director Bobby Miller Talks Critters Attack!

Critters Attack!, the newest entry in the bloody, live-action, horror/sci-fi film series is now available on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital. During this year’s Fantasia Fest in Montreal we got to interview the film’s director Bobby Miller right after the World Premiere, and you can check out the full interview below! Fans can also watch the fur-ocious creatures’ television debut on SYFY, scheduled to air in October.

Dee Wallace (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial), who starred in the original Critters as Helen Brown, will sink her teeth into the franchise for a second time in the mysterious role of Aunt Dee. Inspired by the film series from the ’80s and ’90s, Critters follows 20-year-old Drea (Tashiana Washington), who reluctantly takes a job babysitting for a professor of a college she hopes to attend. Struggling to entertain the professor’s children Trissy (Ava Preston) and Jake (Jack Fulton), along with her own little brother Phillip (Jaeden Noel), Drea takes them on a hike, unaware that mysterious alien critters have crash-landed and started devouring every living thing they encounter.

While being tracked by the ravenous critters, Drea and the kids encounter an adorable, seemingly harmless female critter named Bianca, an exiled royal fleeing the critter race. As the critters converge on the college campus, Drea and the kids, who are now inextricably linked to Bianca, rush to head them off. Will Drea discover her inner badass, and will it be enough to stop the critter onslaught? And is the critter princess as innocent as she seems?

Critters Attack! is written by Scott Lobdell (Happy Death Day) and directed by Bobby Miller (The Cleanse). Rupert Harvey and Barry Opper from the original film franchise are on as producers. The film comes from Blue Ribbon Content in association with SYFY, and production services are provided by Blue Ice Pictures.

ComingSoon.net: How was that Fantasia premiere screening?

Bobby Miller: It was great. It went over super well. I’d never seen it with a crowd. It was the first time I’ve seen it with more than three people in the room. So I was a little nervous, but they got super into it.

CS: Three people are gonna be like, “you fucked up, Bobby.”

Miller: Yeah, everyone’s like, “You fucked up. ‘Critters’ is ruined.”

CS: How dare you destroy a franchise that hasn’t existed in 20 years.

Miller: Yeah, yeah, you son of a bitch.

CS: I had fun with it. I enjoyed it all the way through. Even though it’s R, it felt PG-13.

Miller: That’s what I wanted to do, you know? I wanted to do something that kids could discover and get into horror that way.

CS: And did you talk to Scott Lobdell about that, about the tone?

Miller: Scott was on the same page. It was already there from the script. I think we were both on the same page about the tone of it. I think, if anything, given what me and Scott like, we probably would have pushed the comedy even more, but I’m glad we restrained ourselves a little bit because if it goes too far then there’s no real stakes to the movie.

CS: Right. You had those moments of gravitas, where there is an emotional core to the thing about the girl and her dead mom and her hopes for college.

Miller: Yeah, and to me the films I always come back to are character based, too. They have something else going on. Although, let’s be fair. Let me take that back because I love “Ghoulies 2,” so forget it.

CS: “Ghoulies 2” is way better than the first one.

Miller: I agree. That’s the one I always—I’ll put that on at parties.

CS: The original “Critters” movies were part of a whole cottage industry built around ripping that “Gremlins” off. You had the “Ghoulies” and the “Critters” and “Munchies”. How familiar were you with all the different iterations of “Gremlins”?

Miller: I mean, there was that beautiful period of little monster movies, you know? So no, I was completely familiar with all of those films. Growing up, there were kids who liked Super Nintendo and Genesis. I feel like “Critters” were Genesis. If I could put them in the two camps, because they were just a little gnarlier and just little dirt bags. So yeah, I loved all those films growing up. And like I said before, it was always this idea that they were a gateway to horror for me.

CS: And I don’t know if I misheard this or not, so correct me if I’m wrong, but did you name one of the cats Herek?

Miller: Mm hmm, yeah.

CS: That was your little nod to Stephen Herek?

Miller: Yeah, yeah.

CS: That was great. Have you talked to him or Mick Garris or any of the other directors before?

Miller: No, I haven’t. I’d love to. Part of me was scared to because I didn’t want to know how hard it would be to make a “Critters” movie because you don’t have much time to make these little low budget films. So I didn’t want to know. In fact, that Blu-ray set that Scream Factory did, I was pouring over that. I had it shipped to South Africa where we shot. We have no time for trial and error, like the giant ball in the movie. We need to know what works. And the Chiodo brothers are on that Blu-ray and they’re just like, “Well, we tried this and that,” you know?

CS: Oh great. So those Blu-rays were actually your “Critters” school.

Miller: I was literally taking my iPhone and videoing it and sending it to art department, because we had no time. They were like, “We tried it, and then the ball went way over this way and way over that way.” And I was like, “We don’t have time for that. It just needs to work.” So it was very helpful.

Click here to order your copy of the 4-movie Critters Collectors Set From Scream Factory!

CS: Was this a go project that you were just brought on for as a gun for hire kind of thing?

Miller: Yeah. I had no idea. I was at Fantastic Fest. I did a short after my first feature. “The Cleanse”. I was at Fantastic Fest, and I got the call to do “Critters” and it was very quick. We want to do it in South Africa in January. And I was like, oh okay.

CS: And what month was this now?

Miller: It was October 2018. It was very, very quick. So for me, the biggest thing was I don’t want to screw up “Critters,” basically. My mom thinks I’m crazy for being so worried about this, but “Critters” means something to me, so I didn’t want to screw it up. I was worried about the time crunch, but I actually brought the puppeteers and the creature designers from “Cleanse” and I knew they could at least make the puppets look good. So we’re halfway there with that.

CS: So it wasn’t so much about living up to fans on the internet who are going to be like, “#NotMyCritters” or something?

Miller: Oh I’m sure, it happens for everything, you know? You see it for every single thing. And that’s just part of it, you know? That’s what you sign up for.

CS: Yeah, that’s the problem with a movie economy that’s now built almost entirely on familiar brands is that everybody has an idea in their head of what those brands should be, and if you don’t do X, Y and Z they’re not even going to show up.

Miller: Yeah, yeah.

CS: Was there a checklist of things where you were like, “We’ve got to have the ball, it’s got to be this, it’s got to be that?”

Miller: Well, I mean, really, it was in Scott’s script. And the ball is there. It’s just hard to pinpoint that kind of 80s family horror film that I don’t think they really do much anymore. And it was really tapping into that fun spirit and having it grounded in some… I say having it grounded, and then I think of some of the scenes in there. I’m like, that’s not very grounded. But you know, just kind of getting back to that feeling because I kind of missed that. I missed the idea that as a kid, you can get scared by a movie and also be laughing.

CS: I read in interviews with Joe Dante that the original “Gremlins” script was much gnarlier and Gizmo became bad. So there wasn’t that heart element. And Spielberg’s big contribution was saying Gizmo should stay cute and then everybody will like him.

Miller: Yeah, and I read that script. I actually had it. There’s an early draft. I think they kill the dog. One of the Gremlins kill the dog and I was like, “oh.” But I would argue that’s what makes “Gremlins” great. I think that combination, that Spielberg sprinkle on that film is what makes it great.

CS: And you have that element in your movie, too, with Bianca.

Miller: Yes. That’s Scott. So that’s the thing where you’re just talking about. We’ll see how people react.

CS: So that’s the big controversial element?

Miller: That’s going to be super controversial. I can’t see how anyone would take offense to it.

CS: Yeah, well, and there’s also this element of the Shudder “Critter” series. How in god’s name does this franchise stay dormant for this long, and then all of a sudden there’s a space race to do “Critters”?

Miller: Right, right. Quick. We need to make “Critters” things. I have no idea. I have no idea how it works. From what I understand, the “Critters: New Binge” was something that was done maybe a year or so ago, so it wasn’t done exactly at the same time. But I have no idea.

CS: Have you seen any of that one?

Miller: I haven’t. I just didn’t want to be influenced by anything. I saw the trailer, but what they were trying to do is obviously more cartoony and broad. But actually, Scott the writer said something that I was like, huh, I agree with this: Part of the appeal for me growing up reading comic books was this person’s writing this thing and they’re doing their take on it. I think there’s room for multiple “Critters”, and if you like one better than the other, that’s great. It’s not the end of the world.

CS: Yeah, I’m sure they had the same problem in the prehistoric era, where they’re like, “Bob the builder tells that story better than Steve the hunter.”

Miller: Right, exactly.

CS: Your big secret weapon is you have Dee Wallace back. I think someone said that she never had specifically said she didn’t want to do more “Critters” movies, she just was never invited back until yours. How excited was she to get involved again?

Miller: Well, I read the script and it said “Aunt Dee”. I asked Scott and the producers, “This is for Dee Wallace, right?” And they’re like, “Yeah, ideally.” So I was like, “Can I please have coffee with Dee Wallace because I want to convince her to be in this movie.” That was one of the first things, Dee has to be in this movie. And she was excited. I didn’t have to convince her much because she really liked the idea of playing against type. So to be this badass bounty hunter was really fun for her. She was really excited. I didn’t have to do much.

CS: And was there any discrepancy between the character she played in the first movie and the character she’s playing in this one? Is it supposed to be the same person?

Miller: For me, it’s the same person. I think there was some legal reason why we couldn’t use her name. No one else liked this idea, but I really wanted her to go on this monologue about how after the first movie, you think the family’s fine, but the Critters came back and killed everyone in her family, which I’m sure would’ve went over great with fans. So that was vetoed. But I liked the idea that she was just in waiting for the return.

CS: So after “The Cleanse,” was there a period where you were trying to get other stuff off the ground? Do you have an arsenal of other scripts that you’re trying to get going?

Miller: Yeah, I mean, “The Cleanse” was difficult for me because the movie was hard to market. It’s kind of a genre-less—it kind of has its toes in multiple things.

CS: That’s always hard.

Miller: Yeah, so I wrote a werewolf movie that I am really excited about that I thought I was going to try to get made next and then I got the call for “Critters” and I was like, I really can’t turn down “Critters”. I have such a soft spot for that franchise. I feel like there’s not a lot of werewolf movies, good werewolf movies.

CS: 100 percent agreement.

Miller: It’s time for something, and that’s what I’d love to do next.

CS: Do you want to do a satirical werewolf movie like “The Howling”? Or do you want to do one that’s like super hardcore?

Miller: I would describe this as “The Howling” meets “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”

CS: I love it. I’m married. I get that.

Miller: Yeah. There’s an element of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”, with a couple-based thing.

CS: A couple-based werewolf movie. I can see it in my head already. That’s great. “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” is so much about these two people just unleashing their ids on each other. That is also a part of the werewolf mythos, is like, it’s all the icky, dark horrible things just coming out in you.

Miller: Yeah. I’ve probably watched it every year, but the last time I watched it in context with this werewolf movie, I was like, this is a horror film. This is just so gnarly. The dialogue, ah. It’s so good.

CS: And then, in terms of making “The Cleanse” happen, how long was that journey?

Miller: It was very long.

CS: Because you wound up, A) getting some really good stars, and B) getting some really good looking effects for probably, I’m imagining not a lot of money.

Miller: You would be correct.

CS: So how did that all coalesce for you? And this is the key part, while you were still doing your day job?

Miller: Well, the funny story for that was I was doing a test film to pitch that movie while I was at Buzzfeed. I faked that I was sick one day to shoot that short. A funny story is there were network computers where you upload your videos or whatever, and people can see everything. I accidentally somehow uploaded test footage of “Cleanse” on Buzzfeed, and someone looked at it and was like, “What is this?” It was just a creature, a puppet creature, and like, “What the hell is this?” And I had to be like, “Please don’t rat me out.” Unfortunately, I still wake up really early now because of this, but I would wake up at five in the morning and write and then go to Buzzfeed because that’s the only way. I can’t write at the end of the day.

CS: You’re toasted.

Miller: Yeah. There’s no way. So I was like, “I guess I’ll wake up like a maniac.”

CS: I’ve heard Mike Flanagan talk about when he did “Oculus,”,that he was editing reality TV stuff. It was a question mark about whether his first movie was actually going to happen. But in order to make it happen, he had to eventually quit the job. So it was like, do I cut off my lifeline? And then he just said, “Okay, we have to make this thing happen.” He quit his job and it did wind up happening.

Miller: The same exact story with Buzzfeed. Literally, and it’s funny, I quit Buzzfeed, and my producer Jordan Horowitz a couple of months later called me that the movie was dead. And I was like, “What am I going to do?” And then it ended up happening. But I do think you have to take those leap of faiths. I would send him photos of what I was working on at Buzzfeed. It was like “13 Things Whatever,” something or other. And I was like, “Please, Jordan. Let’s get this movie made.”

CS: Your “Critters Attack!” editor Mike Mendez is in the same boat. He edits to keep a roof over his head, but he’s a director. And he’s a guy who knows how to make ten-cents look like a dollar onscreen.

Miller: Boy, did we get lucky with having Mike. We didn’t have much time to edit the movie. He came in and he was editing on set. He just knew. I was getting scenes as we were wrapping shooting in the car ride at night and they were great. He was just such an asset for us. It was very surreal to be out there in South Africa. Other than Mike, I didn’t bring any crew out there, so it was fun. I considered it like making a Roger Corman movie, where there’s a limited budget. There’s a crew that you work with and make the best thing you can. So that aspect was a really fun challenge. The crew was awesome across the board and really game, and especially with something like “Critters” I think a lot of them had done a lot of CGI heavy stuff. So when we were pulling out these puppets, everyone turns into little kids. Everyone was very excited to the point that there’s one shot that makes me laugh in the movie because this cameraman Guy Hodgen, he literally grabbed a piece of fuzzball fabric and waved it in front of the lens to make it look like it was a critter in the foreground. And it was that type of playfulness that was on set that just made the process… I don’t want to say easier, because the movie was hard, but the spoonful of sugar, yeah.

Stranger Things Season 3 Episode 8 Recap

Stranger Things Season 3 Episode 8 Recap

In the previous episode of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Dustin, Erica, Steve, and Robin joined the rest of the gang, but the Mind Flayer monster was hurting Eleven. In the Stranger Things Season 3 finale, it took a coordinated effort to infiltrate the Russian underground fortress on a mission to close the gate.

Griswold Family

A piece of the Mind Flayer’s creation was embedded inside El’s leg. After Jonathan tried to get it out with a knife, Eleven used her powers to extract it. Right then, the adults finally arrived. After everyone explained what had been going on, the adults formulated a plan using Alexei’s instructions. They would go down into the elevator to shut down the Key. Dustin and Erica rightfully pointed out they needed them to show the way.

Code name Griswold Family included Nancy, Jonathan, Will, Eleven, Mike, Lucas, and Max. They were supposed to wait in safety at Bauman’s. Unfortunately, Billy was waiting outside in his car after he had sabotaged the station wagon. They ran back inside the mall, but the monster came in through the glass ceiling. Will, Lucas, Jonathan and Nancy tried to leave, and Billy almost rammed into them, if it wasn’t for Steve. They escaped, but Billy got a hold of Eleven. Lucas led the firework assault against the monster. However, it was Eleven, who reminded Billy of the memory of his mother, that finally broke through. Billy sacrificed himself to save them.

Scoop Troop and Bald Eagle

Stranger Things Season 3 Episode 8 Recap

Scoop Troop, a.k.a. Dustin, Erica, Robin, and Steve, headed for Weathtertop, the hill where Dustin kept Cerebro. After directing the Bald Eagle, Bauman, through the vents, the adults were at a dead end with the passcode. It was supposed to be Planck’s constant, but the number was wrong. Dustin finally got Susie, who was real, on Cerebro. At Susie’s request, they sang “A Neverending Story” together, and she gave the right number. Unfortunately, Grigori attacked as the gate was closing. Hopper defeated him but didn’t make it out when Joyce closed the gate. The Mind Flayer’s body was dead. Because of Hopper and Joyce’s message, Dr. Owens and government agents swarmed the mall and the facility.

Three Months Later

Stranger Things Season 3 Episode 8 Recap

The Meyers family was moving, and with Hopper gone, that included Eleven. Eleven told Mike that she had heard him say he loved her. She loved him too. Will donated his Dungeons & Dragons books; he could use Mike’s when he was in town and would never join another party. Joyce showed Eleven the heartfelt speech that Hopper was supposed to give her.

During the end credits, we saw a prison in Kamchatka, Russia. The guards referenced an American in one of the cells and took a Russian scientist with them. They put him in a cage and released a Demogorgon.

POLL RESULTS: Which Marvel Phase 4 Project Are You Most Excited For?

POLL RESULTS: Which Marvel Phase 4 Project Are You Most Excited For?

During their big Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios unveiled the full slate of films and TV series that will encompass Phase 4 of the MCU! ComingSoon.net asked its readers to vote for the Marvel Phase 4 project they’re looking forward to the most, and you can check out the official results of the poll below!

RELATED: POLL RESULTS: Who Should Be the Next Avengers?

Which Marvel Phase 4 project are you most excited for?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (37%, 945 votes)

Thor: Love and Thunder (25%, 620 votes)

The Eternals (8%, 210 votes)

Black Widow (8%, 198 votes)

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (7%, 183 votes)

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (5%, 121 votes)

Loki (3%, 84 votes)

What If…? (3%, 76 votes)

WandaVision (2%, 56 votes)

Hawkeye (1%, 37 votes)

So it seems that the good Doctor Strange is far and away the most popular character to emerge from the Infinity Saga into Phase 4. That jibes with the results of our previous poll where we asked readers to pick who should make up the next avengers, and Stephen Strange got the most votes by far. Thor also remains an ever-popular force of nature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the added bonus of the return of Natalie Portman as both Jane Foster and The Mighty Thor to entice audiences.

All the other projects for Phase 4 have middling to nil interest from our readers… for now. We have a feeling that once fans get a look at the new film and TV projects (even poor Hawkeye) they will be ready to scream, “Take my money!”

Feige officially announced the feature film Black Widow, which is slated for a May 1, 2020 release in U.S. theaters, making it the first film of Phase Four to hit the big screen.

Eternals will make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in theaters on November 6, 2020.

The next entry in the phrase isn’t a film at all, but the first MCU Disney+ original series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which pairs up two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most popular heroes—Sam Wilson aka The Falcon and Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier—in a series of action-filled adventures as they fight together against evil after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Anthony Mackie (The Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier) will star alongside Daniel Brühl who will return as the villain, Baron Zemo. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is set to debut on Disney+ in the fall of 2020.

Next comes Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings featuring Simu Liu in the title role of Shang-Chi, with Destin Daniel Cretton on board to direct. Awkwafina has also been cast in a yet-to-be-disclosed role with celebrated Chinese actor Tony Leung set to play The REAL Mandarin. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be in theaters on February 12, 2021.

Next comes another Disney+ series with WandaVision, where Paul Bettany reprises the role of Vision and Elizabeth Olsen returns to her role of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. MCU newcomer Teyonah Parris will be playing the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau, who was introduced to audiences in Captain Marvel. WandaVision premieres on Disney+ in the spring of 2021.

Next will be Loki,  featuring Tom Hiddleston back in his role of the mercurial god of mischief and everyone’s favorite villain. He will return in the spring of 2021 on Disney+. The series will deal with the biggest question from Avengers: Endgame, “Where did Loki go when he took the Space Stone?”

The MCU goes back to the big screen next with the second film in the “Doctor Strange” franchise, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Scott Derrickson, returns to direct with Benedict Cumberbatch returning to star. Elizabeth Olsen will star in as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the sequel which connects directly to the WandaVision TV series. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 7, 2021.

Then the first animated entry in the MCU with What If….?, a series being created exclusively for Disney+ which features stories that present alternate realities in the Marvel universe. Many actors from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe will reprise their roles as voice talent in the series with Jeffrey Wright set as the voice of the popular character The Watcher in the new series. What If…? joins the Disney+ lineup in the summer of 2021.

Next will be the previously reported Hawkeye Disney+ series with Jeremy Renner set to reprise his role as Clint Barton. In the series he will teach his protege Kate Bishop, a character well-known in Marvel comics, who will be an integral part of the series. Hawkeye launches on Disney+ in the fall of 2021.

Finally, Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be the fourth feature film in the “Thor” franchise will cap off Phase Four with Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, set to become the Mighty Thor, the goddess of Thunder. Director Taika Waititi returns alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. The sequel arrives November 5, 2021 in theaters.
